400 Million people in the world are at risk of Vitamin A deficiency.  The areas with the greatest amount of Vitamin A deficiencies are in South and Southeast Asia, where 70% of children are affected.  The Rockefeller Foundations supports and fund Dr. Potrykus and Dr. Beyer in their research.  Furthermore, the Rockefeller Foundations will continue to support the institution of Golden Rice in areas around the world which will benifit from its introduction into agriculture.
